The superior hose clamp system

One of the most common causes of hydraulic hose failure is external abrasion. External abrasion occurs as a result of hydraulic hoses abrasing against each other causing the outer layer to wear. While you may have implemented hose clamps on your hydraulic system, using unsuitable clamps can do more harm than good.

What are hose clamps?

Hose clamps are used to secure hydraulic hoses in position, prevent unwanted movement caused by pulsations, and separate hoses to minimise abrasion.

What are the types of hose clamps?

Hose clamps are traditionally made from metal or plastic and come in different shapes including C-clamps and T-hold hose clamps.

Can I use zip ties for hose clamps?

Zip ties are not recommended to be used as hydraulic hose clamps. While cable ties may seem like a quick-fix short term solution, cable ties have not been manufactured for this purpose, nor can they withstand the harsh heat conditions faced by hydraulic assemblies on site. Furthermore, due to only having a small sectional area, cable ties are known to chaff into the hose, causing the hose outer layer to wear away – leading to catastrophic hose failure.

Identifying zip ties as the cause of the hydraulic hose failure is simple. If the hose burst or spill occurred as a result of external abrasion, check the hose for cable tie use.

Metal fixings and clamps

Metal hose clamps, spirals and fixings may cause your hose to fail as they have the potential to become conductive on vibrating hoses.

Other hose protective systems including hose protection sleeves and hose guards may seem like suitable options, however still tend to cause abrasion issues as discovered by our market research.

Many of these so-called ‘solutions’ cause more problems than they solve. Take spiral fixings for example, although beneficial for protecting a hose from abrasion – another problem is created as the hose spirals are unable to hold or position the hoses, therefore a secondary product is needed.

The same can be said about other metal fixings – although separating the hoses, their conductive nature tends to another problem being created.

And let’s not forget about cable ties – while they are able to position hydraulic hoses, a cable ties sharp edges may cause further abrasion on nearby hoses or injuries to employees.

SOLUTION: HoseMateTM

HoseMateTM is the superior hose clamp system that does not create any further problems on your hydraulic hose assembly. Manufactured from environmentally friendly polymer, HoseMateTM is purpose designed by industry for industry.

The HoseMateTM hose protection system comprises of hose clamps, joiners and tension straps.

Hoses are clamped together using a joiner – ensuring clear hose separation and eliminating any risk of external abrasion.

The hose clamp system is then secured to the hose with tension straps. In contrast to cable ties, HoseMateTM tension straps are heat stabilised – and therefore unlikely to crack or snap in extreme conditions. Although likened to the cable tie clamp solution, which is known to cause problems, our tension straps do not contact the hydraulic hose as the HoseMateTM clamps acts as a barrier between the tension straps and hose.

Unlike other hydraulic hose clamps products, HoseMateTM has undergone an extreme testing regime – including heat, cold, chemicals, and vibrations. Able to withstand all conditions, HoseMateTM is the superior hose protection system.
